The Gray Cottage

Imagine your own private cottage, bordering on a small brook, nestled around trees and available for your own private retreat!

The Gray Cottage consists of a living room, two bedrooms, a kitchenette, and a bathroom.

Upon entering the cottage, a door leading to a coat closet is facing the front door. The floor is covered by a beige Berber tweed carpet with a hint of mauve. The same carpet covers all the floors in the cottage with the exception of the living room, kitchen and bath. A carpeted walkway toward the bedroom area is separated from the living room on the left by a pine rail.  The rail serves as a perfect placement for the comfortable overstuffed loveseat which pulls out to make a queen size sleeper. The loveseat upholstery and the upholstery on two large matching overstuffed chairs match the background of the floral wall covering. Above the pine wainscoting is a wall covering with a soft greenish beige background and light cream flowers and green foliage with a hint of pale apricot. The floor of the living room is pine planking. The sitting area is accented by two large area rugs with a multi-colored floral design.

In the corner of the room is a brick wood burning fireplace with a brick hearth. The mantel is a large rustic pine beam. In the opposite corner there is a small drop-leaf pine table with chair that can be used as a desk for writing all those postcards to family and friends back home. A table by the door holds a small jam-box with an am/fm radio, tape and CD player. Another table holds a 42 inch LCD HDTV with a DVD/VHS player. A telephone sits on a small table by the sofa.

Abundant natural light in the living room is provided by two large windows, one double and one single. A scalloped valance that is a perfect match for the background of the wall covering graces the top of the windows and delicate white sheer curtains with lace trim fall over the window from the valance.

The kitchenette is open to the living room. The floor is white vinyl and the same wall covering from the living room continues in the kitchen. A nice corner arrangement of cabinets provides storage for pots, pans, dishes, tableware and other essentials for cooking.  There is a four burner stove with oven, microwave oven, small refrigerator with a top freezer, a toaster, coffee maker and tea pot. A nice size sink is placed under a window overlooking the driveway and the Hill House Suites. There are lace curtains at the window.

Proceeding down the hall, the first door to the left leads into a beautiful spacious bathroom. On the right there are double sinks and a large mirror. On the left is a tub/shower with a hand held shower massage. The toilet is recessed into an alcove. The walls are covered with a navy blue floral wall covering. The floor is beige vinyl tile and there is a large lighthouse throw rug in front of the sinks. A small window is covered with while lace curtains and mini-blinds. Florescent lighting over the mirror and a light over the tub provide additional light. A ventilation fan is on the ceiling.

Further down the hall there are two bedrooms. The bedroom on the right has a queen size bed covered with a comforter with a bright burgundy background. The floral pattern has beige and apricot roses with green foliage. The shams and skirt match the pattern of the comforter. The walls are almost a reverse of the pattern on the bed. The wall covering above the pine wainscoting, has a background of olive green with bright burgundy and beige flowers with a touch of apricot. A beige duvet cover filled with a down comforter lies at the foot of the bed. On the Berber carpet there are two oriental area rugs. There are tables on each side of the bed. A charming old pine desk, perhaps a school desk at one time, with a chair is in one corner of the room. Two other small chairs are located in other areas of the room. The room has a lot of light from two large single windows. They are covered with lace valances and white pull-down shades. One window looks out toward the pool and the other to the large maple tree in the front yard. The room also has a nice closet for hanging clothing.

The second bedroom has two twin beds. The beds are covered with matching comforters. The comforters with a burgundy background have a gold, beige and olive floral pattern. Beige down comforters lay at the foot of each bed. At the bottom of the walls there is pine wainscoting. The wall covering over the wainscoting has an old gold background and a muted floral pattern in various shades of gold, brown, green and burgundy. A drop-leaf table is between the beds. In one corner, there is a dresser with drawers for storage. A nice size closet provides room for hanging clothing and for storing other items. Two large single windows covered with lace and pull-down shades overlook the pool and the expansive grounds.

The Gray Cottage offers families a comfortable “home away from home” and is the only lodging at Ten Acres Lodge that welcomes the family pet.
