Boston Bruins invading Stowe VT

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 7:26 pm

Those of you who have followed our exploits here may remember I had the the great honor of working with the Boston Bruins Hockey Club last year, facilitating a team building event.  Guess I did OK as they are returning to Stowe and I will be having a role in helping them make a run for the cup.  I must say this is a great group of men, from the coaching staff, to the front office to the players themselves.  It was one of the most enjoyable team building sessions I had ever done and I look forward to working with them again.  With the quality individuals they have in this organization, I have no doubt they will continue to improve and make it deep into the playoffs.  Here’s hoping they do!

The Bruins aren’t the only ones invading Stowe.  The British Invasion, the annual car show celebrating classic Bristish Sports Cars is this weekend and this year’s event promises to be the best ever.  More interesting to me is the variety of visitors we have coming to Stowe.  If this weekend is any indication, our guests here at Ten Acres Lodge come from South Africa, England, Canada, Asia and even the USA!  This international crowd is one of the reasons I so enjoy owning this place.  It makes for interesting conversations.

The leaves are starting to change so for you leaf peepers out there…start making your plans to come up.  If you haven’t booked a room, you may start to find it difficult.  It’s looking like it will be a spectacular autumn with colors galore!  We hope to see you in the coming weeks.

Cars, Fall Colors and Anniversaries in Stowe VT

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 10:13 am

It’s been awhile since I posted last and much has happened here at Ten Acres Lodge.  First, we celebrated our 4th anniversary of ownership in late August.  Hard to believe it has been 4 years!  As I’ve told the many people who have graced our establishment, this has been the most frustrating, challenging, exhausting and REWARDING thing I’ve ever done.  It is a difficult line of work but I can’t think of anything I’ve done professionally that has given me more pride or satifaction.  So we’ve popped the champagne, had a toast to the past four years….and got back to work!

The coming weeks bring a busy time in Stowe and for good reason.  The British Invasion Car show is an popular annual event that takes place this month.  Hundreds of classic British sports cars invade our little town and make for a fun filled atmosphere.  Even if you aren’t a car “enthusiast”, this show brings back memories of a time gone by.  The cars are terrific to look at and the people driving them and admiring them are even better.  This is one of my favorite weekends in Stowe because the people who come here for the show are fun loving, easy going and friendly.

The big event to bless Stowe in the coming weeks is, of course, the fall colors.  Theories are abundant on whether the colors will be good this year.  Some say it will be a great year since we had a wet summer.  Other say it will be a bad year because of the wet summer.  I say, the colors are always good!  To be sure, some years are better than others but I can honestly say that the 4 years we have been here, it always takes my breath away.  Some have noted that some trees are already turning though I can’t see it.  I do know a few leaves have fallen here at Ten Acres but that is normal for here this time of year.

I do know one thing for certain…if you want to come and enjoy the magic of a New England Autumn, make your plans now!  We are already fully booked on Columbus day weekend and the weekend before.  But that still leaves plenty of time to explore Vermont’s wonders.  Anytime between Sept 25 and Oct 20 is pretty certain to have plenty of color in the trees.  It’s not an exact science so its hard to guarantee but… this time frame works most any year.  The biggest problem won’t be seeing colors, it will be finding a place to sleep!  So if you’re considering getting away from life for a few days and taking in the splendor of New England, make your plans now.

I will do my best to post observations from here as to the colors we’re seeing, with no spin, so you plan accordingly.  You can also look at the web site foliage network for good info as well.

We hope to see you here in the coming weeks.  It promises to be a great time in Stowe Vt!
