Oh No! More snow in Stowe Vermont!

Filed under: Events in Stowe VT — admin @ 10:58 am

Even though there’s been no big storms come our way lately, it continues to snow most every day here in Stowe.  An inch here…an inch there.  It starts to pile up.  It means I need to shovel again…but I guess it’s good for the skiers.

A couple of inches fell last night.  I guess I need to start plowing again and pile the snow up higher along the driveways.  I hear its good for the snow machines and dog sledding…

This year the snow has been so fluffy.  Not that wet stuff, which I actually miss since it is so good for making a snowman or to have a snowball fight with my daughter.  Some mornings I just use a broom to get it off the sidewalks.  Geez it is so much work…but the skiers tell me they love powder…

I keep hearing how great having all this snow is but usually it just means more work for me.  It looks like visitors from all around will want to come to Stowe, take advantage of all the deals available and play in the snow.  When will all this snow end?

By now I hope you can see I’m just having a little fun.  Actually the snow is terrific and my guests here at the lodge have been telling me that the conditions (both downhill and xc) are excellent.  While there have been no “storms” lately, that doesn’t mean we dodn’t get snow.  Those irritating…ooopssorry…those welcomed showers of 2-3 inches of snow have been happening here on a daily for the last week or so.  It is making for a picturesque setting for the Stowe Winter Carnival coming up.

So if you hear me complaining about all the snow just remember, it means great winter fun for all our visitors.  I hope you can take adavantage of the conditions and great deals available in Stowe VT.

Well…back to shoveling!

20/20 vision means big savings in Stowe VT

Filed under: Events in Stowe VT — admin @ 11:17 am

Sometimes we just need to look for good deals.  If you have good vision you’ll see several great options for saving money on ski packages here in Stowe.  At Ten Acres Lodge, we’re going to start our “20/20 promotion”.  Simply stated, for the next 20 days ( Jan 20-Feb. 8) we are offering 20% off our winter rates and summer rates.  So any bookings you make for Jan 20-Feb 12, Feb 17-March 31, and June 17 – Sept 17 will be offered at 20% off.  You must mention the “20/20 promotion” when making your reservation directly with us.  Use your 20/20 vision and see what other great packages we have to help you save money.

Stowe is offering many opportunities to save money on ski tickets, dining and more.  Our business community has come together to make a winter holiday more affordable than ever.  And for those in you in the Northeast US, Stowe is a short drive away.  No lines for security, lost luggage or hassles of flying.

The snow has been fabulous with snow showers most every day keeping a little fresh snow on the ground.  We seemed to get thru our annual deep freeze (at one point the temps were -28F) and we are now more seasonal.  Whether you like to ski or not, Stowe can be a place for you to get away from the stress in your life.

At times like these, where everyone is collectively on edge, don’t forget to take time for yourself and reflect on what is good in your life.  Try to take time to have fun and get away from the everyday grind.  It’s important for you and those you love.  Hopefully you’ll find Stowe to be the place for you to get away but if not, please at least treat yourself to some R&R.  Your body and mind will thank you for it!

Hope to see you soon at Ten Acres.

Ski Packages have good deals in Stowe VT

Filed under: Events in Stowe VT — admin @ 11:15 am

I saw an article recently that stated that there were few deals out there to be had for skiing in the Northeast.  It’s just not true!  We just put out a great ski package at Ten Acres Lodge which includes lift tickets for two, 2 nights lodging, full breakfast each morning AND a three course dinner.  If you perfer something different, we also have deals on stays of three nights or more that are sure to save you money.

Stowe Mountain resort has great deals as well.  Lift tickets can be had for discounts if you book in advance and they even offer flex days where you don’t have to ski every day.  We I have compared the prices in Stowe for skiing versus out west, there is no debate. Stowe offers better value and the skiing is fabulous.  We have had over 2 feet of snow in the past 10 days.

Coming up later this month is the annual Stowe Winter Carnival.  Ice carving, block parties, ski races, snow volleyball are just soem of the activities planned.  This event is fun for the whole family and I encourage you to consider visiting Stowe for the event.  It takes place Jan. 19 – 25.

Back to shoveling and plowing for me…

Stimulus Package impacts Stowe Vermont

Filed under: Events in Stowe VT — admin @ 4:48 pm

With all the talk about stimulus packages, I thought I would mention that Mother Nature contributed her own stimulus package….snow!  We’ve had more than 1 foot in the past few days with more to come in the next week.  Of course that is if you believe weather forecasters.  Weather forecasters are the only professionals I know that are right 20% of the time and keep thier jobs!  But seriously, predicting the weather is very difficult, especially here in New England, and they do a pretty good job.  The weather pattern has settled into a normal January model which means cold temps and snow showers most every day.  For all you skiers out there, this is the kind of stimulus you want!

Another stimulus package has impacted Stowe.  This one is courtesy of our place, Ten Acres Lodge.  I just started a “winter fun stimulus package” which includes, lodging, lift tickets, breakfast for two nights PLUS a 3 course dinner on Sat. night for one low price.  Check it out on our web site under the packages page.  Even though the news tells us to be worried and depressed, I choose to look at it as a great time to get away from all the mess and travel deals are out there to help you do just that.  In times like these, you really need to get away to pause, reflect on what is good in your life, and play a little.  I hope we can help you enjoy a little winter escape.  Put away the remote (or at least turn off the news) and discover the joy and serenity of Stowe VT…and of course Ten Acres Lodge.

Winter in full swing in Stowe Vermont

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 4:44 pm

Been awhile since I posted last and thought I should update everyone on what is going on at Ten Acres Lodge in Stowe, VT.

Needless to say, Winter has arrived!  So far we have had a good snow season.  December was above average in snow and we expect the same for January.  Our humble little town is an Oasis for winter enthusiasts with activities as diverse as downhill skiing, cross country skiing, snow machines (snowmobiles to us flatlanders), snowshoeing, ice skating, dog sledding and much much more.  Let me give you a little more detail on some of these…

I was just at the mountain today and you wouldn’t recognize it from even last year.  The Base Lodge is up and running and is beautiful.  Complete with Restaurant, Bar, lockers, gift shop and plenty of space to rest up.  It has a rustic feel but is definitely comtemporary.  I’m sure it rivals any base lodge in the country.  The skiing, which of course is paramount to skiers, is as good as ever.  Snow making continues to be an added bonus to the mountain and they have gotten very good at creating good conditions on most any day.  Some guests we had here during a recent thaw said the skiing was fabulous!

Cross Country skiing is among the best you’ll find in the country, with Trapp Family Lodge sporting the premier cross country ski center in North America.  It’s great that we are only a mile away from there and as a result, we attract a lot of cross country skiers.  They have even added snow making on 10Km of the trails which keeps many of the trails open when the weather doesn’t cooperate.

We have a soft spot in our hearts for Dog Sledding.  This is a once in a lifetime experience that is not to be missed!  We love dogs as it is but, to be out on the trails with excited dogs ready to give you a ride, amkes for a thrilling 90 minutes.  We can send you to the right place for dog sledding so please ask us.  A slightly slower ride is a horse carriage ride.  Not as thrilling but nevertheless an enjoyable experience.  There are several options in town and we love them all.

Did I mention sledding?  Discover the kid in you by renting some sleds or tobaggans and racing down one of our hills.  One of my fondest memories of owning Ten Acres will always be watching a family sled down the hill we have on our property.  What makes it so special?  The family was from Cuba…they had just “escaped” a few months earlier, and this was the first time they had seen snow.  And when I say family, I mean the entire family!  The kids, Mom and Dad, even Grandma and Gramps!  I can still hear the screams and laughing, just pure joy, of all of them trying sledding for the first time.

If this isn’t enough to interest you consider this.  Prices are competitive these days and places like Stowe are looking to attract customers.  We have some packages ourselves that provide discounts for three night and five night stays.  You should check it out.  At times like these, with all the bad news that is reported, it’s important to remember to have some fun…and be a kid again!  Just like that family from Cuba.

I can still hear them laughing like kids….
