Winter in full swing in Stowe Vermont

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 4:44 pm

Been awhile since I posted last and thought I should update everyone on what is going on at Ten Acres Lodge in Stowe, VT.

Needless to say, Winter has arrived!  So far we have had a good snow season.  December was above average in snow and we expect the same for January.  Our humble little town is an Oasis for winter enthusiasts with activities as diverse as downhill skiing, cross country skiing, snow machines (snowmobiles to us flatlanders), snowshoeing, ice skating, dog sledding and much much more.  Let me give you a little more detail on some of these…

I was just at the mountain today and you wouldn’t recognize it from even last year.  The Base Lodge is up and running and is beautiful.  Complete with Restaurant, Bar, lockers, gift shop and plenty of space to rest up.  It has a rustic feel but is definitely comtemporary.  I’m sure it rivals any base lodge in the country.  The skiing, which of course is paramount to skiers, is as good as ever.  Snow making continues to be an added bonus to the mountain and they have gotten very good at creating good conditions on most any day.  Some guests we had here during a recent thaw said the skiing was fabulous!

Cross Country skiing is among the best you’ll find in the country, with Trapp Family Lodge sporting the premier cross country ski center in North America.  It’s great that we are only a mile away from there and as a result, we attract a lot of cross country skiers.  They have even added snow making on 10Km of the trails which keeps many of the trails open when the weather doesn’t cooperate.

We have a soft spot in our hearts for Dog Sledding.  This is a once in a lifetime experience that is not to be missed!  We love dogs as it is but, to be out on the trails with excited dogs ready to give you a ride, amkes for a thrilling 90 minutes.  We can send you to the right place for dog sledding so please ask us.  A slightly slower ride is a horse carriage ride.  Not as thrilling but nevertheless an enjoyable experience.  There are several options in town and we love them all.

Did I mention sledding?  Discover the kid in you by renting some sleds or tobaggans and racing down one of our hills.  One of my fondest memories of owning Ten Acres will always be watching a family sled down the hill we have on our property.  What makes it so special?  The family was from Cuba…they had just “escaped” a few months earlier, and this was the first time they had seen snow.  And when I say family, I mean the entire family!  The kids, Mom and Dad, even Grandma and Gramps!  I can still hear the screams and laughing, just pure joy, of all of them trying sledding for the first time.

If this isn’t enough to interest you consider this.  Prices are competitive these days and places like Stowe are looking to attract customers.  We have some packages ourselves that provide discounts for three night and five night stays.  You should check it out.  At times like these, with all the bad news that is reported, it’s important to remember to have some fun…and be a kid again!  Just like that family from Cuba.

I can still hear them laughing like kids….
