If you think the recent weather means no snow, think again. The mountain still has plenty of snow for downhill skiing. You can look at our webcam, which we just moved to the center of the property, and see plenty of snow. To be sure, down here we are seeing some grass (not altogether bad if you’ve been like us and seen white for fours months) but the mountain still has 3-4 feet of base and stays in the shade most of the day making for classic spring conditions. A great tradition you should experience is the annual springtime ritual of harvesting maple sap. If you come up to Vermont in late March you can learn the process of making maple syrup. We serve maple syrup here (we call it liquid gold) and once you’ve had it, you never have the fake stuff again.
You’ll learn a lot about how it’s made and of course, get to sample the fruits of the labor. You’ll start to understand the reason behind the high cost since it takes 40 gallons of sap to make 1 gallon of syrup.
