Ten Acres Lodge - A Stowe Vermont Bed and Breakfast
April 11, 2011
Well I guess global warming has finally hit Stowe Vt with the first “warm temps” of the year. The snow is melting (sorry skiers..it had to end sometime), the streams are overflowing and mud season is in full swing. The only thing more irritating than constantly having to shovel snow is…trekking thru MUD! The good news is its only temporary and it is a sign of the approaching beautiful spring time in Vermont. Here at Ten Acres Lodge, it also means spring cleaning, painting, filing and catching up on all those things we couldn’t get to in winter.
It also has meant some quiet time for reflection and planning for the coming year. While it looks like prices are trending higher, we’ve looked at ways to make the travel dollar go farther. If you check out our rates, you’ll see we’ve adopted the airline model (don’t worry….not THAT confusing!)
The filming of the movie “Blood Lodge” wrapped here a couple of weeks ago. It was a great experience and we hope it will be a big hit. It’s my first and probably last role in a film. I thought I did OK…at least the Director said so…of course he also said I didn’t need make up (yea right!).
Hope to see you this Spring or Summer. It’s always beautiful here that time of year. Now if only that mud could dry up….

Love is in the air…at Ten Acres Lodge.

Ten Acres Lodge and its restaurant, Lagniappe, are pleased to announce a joint venture with Graffiti Playhouse Productions, based in New Jersey. Graffiti will be using Ten Acres Lodge and Stowe, VT as a base for their production of their new film “Blood Lodge: Terror at Ten Acresâ€. Principle photography will take place in mid March and use locations in and around Stowe as well as interiors at Ten Acres. Pre production and some filming have already taken place in New Jersey.
Writer/Director Kevin Orosz is excited about bringing the cast and crew to Stowe. “The location brings the right element to our film and we are anxious to get up there and finish our movie.†The horror film synopsis states that the characters find, “It’s a zombie attack on Ten Acres.†Among the actors attached with the film include Vincent Pastore from Sopranos fame.
Ten Acres owner Frank Wilson had to be involved when he saw the title saying, “Being a life long film buff, I saw a great opportunity to feature Stowe and our place, as well as having the chance to do something I’ve always wanted to be a part of…film making.â€
The film makers are currently looking for local acting talent to complete the cast. Actors 18-34 should contact Wilson at Ten Acres or Graffiti Playhouse Productions. The producers are also looking for those in the area that are interested in supporting the project. Blood Lodge: Terror at Ten Acres will commence with post production after visiting Stowe and expects to gain a nationwide release in theaters later in 2011.
Graffiti Playhouse productions (contact at orosz_01@yahoo.com ) is an independent production company based in New Jersey. In addition to Orosz, the other Producers are: Ryan Philips, Ed McKeever and Jason Korner. Ten Acres Lodge (www.tenacreslodge.com), owned by Frank and Robin Wilson, is a country inn based in Stowe Vermont.

We have been so busy with our new restaurant Lagniappe that I haven’t had the chance to post any comments lately. I now have a profound appreciation of all those who own and operate a restaurant. It takes an amazing amount of energy to do this…and we’re only open 4 days a week! The good news is that the feedback has been extremely positive so far and I am grateful to all those who have posted comments about their experience. You can see them here
One of my favorite weekends of the year is coming up…the British Invasion. You can see literally hundreds of classic British sportcars throughout the weekend. It also happens to be very busy in Stowe so if you want to come up, you must book rooms early, wherever you choose to stay. I hope you stay with us but if not, at least give the restaurant a try.
Fall is coming…be ready for Mother Nature’s spectacular display!
Safe travels!

As July 4th approaches the summer season gets in full swing here in VT. The grass is lush, the trees full of green and the mountain streams run crystal clear. I’ve been a devoted golfer most of my life, though I will admit this life as an innkeeper has kept me from my passion of the game for the last few years. Fortunately, when I do get out, we have a great track here in town at the Stowe Country Club. For those of you who stay with us here at Ten Acres Lodge, we have vouchers available that get you discounted green fees and a Stowe Points card which when used can help you earn free rounds of golf or lift tickets. Please let us know when booking if you want to take advantage of these vouchers. I hope to have a package deal ready in the next couple of days that will include golf, lodging and dinner at our new restaurant Lagniappe.
The weather looks to be classic summertime weather and should be terrific for a traditional small town America Forth of July. I hope you can join us!
Happy Birthday USA!

If you have time you should look at coming up to the Stowe Garden Festival. In late June, Stowe is just beautiful with flowers galore, lush trees and green everywhere ( I guess that’s why they call them the Green Mountains!). You can find information here http://www.stowegardenfestival.com/
We have great deals on rooms that include dinner at our new restaurant, Lagniappe. Visit us at Ten Acres Lodge and discover why we say this is where “Stress ends and living begins”

We just announced a new program we are starting in conjunction with our restaurant, Lagniappe, to help those in need. Since the restaurant at Ten Acres Lodge offers cajun/creole cuisine, it was just a natural fit. Please consider donating to the Greater New Orleans Foundation or any other charity providing support to those who are affected by the Gulf oil spill. Ten Acres Lodge and its restaurant, Lagniappe, are pleased to announce that the month of June will begin a series of charitable donations that will attempt to help those in need wherever they may be. This month, Lagniappe will donate a portion of sales for the month of June to the Greater New Orleans Foundation. This foundation, rated 4 stars by Charity Navigator, has established an oil spill fund which is designed to assist with clean up efforts and to help fishermen experiencing financial hardship.
The selection of the foundation was a careful one, ensuring that money sent gets to those in need and not to administrative costs. Owner Frank Wilson remarked, “the connection Lagniappe has to Louisiana is an obvious one so the selection of a charity addressing the oil spill was easy.â€
In addition, Wilson says the employees have embraced the concept. “Our employees have stepped to the plate and offered to help as wellâ€, Wilson said. “I’m proud of the quality of people we have working here.â€
Customers are encouraged to ask about the foundation when they visit.

I was delighted to be contacted by a local publication that noticed our ad in the local Stowe VT paper, concerning our newly opened restaurant, Lagniappe. This publication specializes in local events, dining, movies etc. The article is a nice summary of our brief conversation and I want to thank Suzanne Podhaizer, the author, for taking time to talk with me about our new venture.
Check out the article and let me know what you think.

We were very excited to open our new restaurant Lagniappe, this past weekend. It was a so called “soft opening” with invited guests. To our delight it went very well. The food was praised and the service went great. Comments included: “the etoufee was the best I ever had”, “The sole was awesome”, “Pork Chops were unbelievable”, “Excellent dining experience”, and on and on. We were grateful to all of our guests who took time to give us comments on the food, service and atmosphere. We learned a few things that we will implement soon and we look forward to making Lagniappe a must do dining experience in Stowe. The name of the restaurant, pronounced Lan Yapp, is a great cajun french word meaning “a little something extra”.
As our guests found out, cajun food is not overly spicy. You’ll find it to be full of flavor, but not overpowering. Check out our selections and more at www.tenacreslodge.com We hope to see you!
