Birds Of Ten Acres Lodge

Birding has become increasingly popular over the years and we at Ten Acres Lodge are happy to promote it.  Stowe VT is a great place for birding and suprisingly good even in the winter months.  This video serves 2 purposes.  One, to show our love of birds both outside and the ones we have inside.  My father was an award winning carver who brought birds to life in his carvings and we are proud to showcase them in the Main Lodge.  And two, well my Dad was very special to me and this week marks the three year anniversary of his passing.  As a tribute to him, I share this video with you.

If you find yourself in the Stowe area, we hope you come to stay with us but I would also be pleased if you stopped by to the carvings.  I am proud to show them off.

Kidcations in Stowe VT

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 11:45 am

We were honored to have been mentioned recently in an article in the boston examiner about great places to take your kids.  You can find it here http://www.examiner.com/x-18652-Boston-Bed–Breakfast-Examiner~y2009m8d1-Kidcations–Who-says-you-cant-take-the-kids-to-a-BB

We’ve tried to be all things to all people meaning, couples and families can find their place here at Ten Acres Lodge.  For families, we have so many things during the summer that can be done without leaving the property.  Swimming pool, horseshoes, private cinema, tennis court and more.  And Stowe offers so much in its own right.  The summer is almost gone so give yourself and those you love a break and enjoy the last days of warm days and cool nights.

We also have some great deals to celebrate our 5th anniversary of owning Ten Acres.  Some rooms have special rates attached to them so give us a call to find out.

If you’re part of the foliage crowd, be sure to book rooms early as it is the highest demand period in VT.  I’m predicting a spectacular fall colors season with the summer weather we had so I hope you can make it up and see for yourself why people from all over the world come to visit VT.

Safe travels!

Biking trails in Stowe Vermont

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 2:24 pm

I just came across a great web site for those of you who like to mountain bike.  You can find it here http://www.singletracks.com/bike-trails/stowe-town-forest.html

At Ten Acres Lodge, we have a covered area to park your bikes while staying with us.  Being close to some trails helps us attract bikers.  We are only half a mile from the Stowe Rec path and having just recently been on that trail with my bike, I can tell you it is wonderful place for a leisurely bike ride with great views.

We hope to see you in Stowe and enjoying our biking real soon!

Summer Vacation fun at a Bed and Breakfast in Stowe Vermont

One spot to relax at Ten Acres Lodge

One spot to relax at Ten Acres Lodge

I was just looking at the schedule of events for the summer here and was amazed at how many great things we have coming up…for couples…families…for anyone!  No matter your interests, you will find something exciting to do here in Stowe this summer.  Consider this list…Garden Festival, Ballooon Festival, Mountain Bike Festival, Antique Car Show, Culinary Festival, Mozart Concert Series, Summer Music Festival (outdoor concerts) Sports car festivals Community Theatre, and much, much more.

This list is by no means complete, but you get the idea.  Summer is by far my favorite time here.  The weather is usually fantastic with moderate temps during the day and cool nights.  There is something going on all the time and plenty of other activities such as biking, hiking, golf, fishing, rafting, horseback riding and even…just relaxing!  That’s where Ten Acres Lodge comes in.

Summer is a great time at Ten Acres.  The pool is inviting on warm days.  We have a tennis court, horseshoe pit and my favorite, Serenity Falls which is a small waterfall and goldfish pond that offers a relaxing, peaceful place to sit and relax.  We’ll be offering outdoor BBQ by the pool on Saturdays and campfires later in the evening.  We have a covered storage area for those of you who bring your bikes.  The outdoor concerts are just 1 mile away making for easy access to the venue.  Hiking, biking and golf less than 2 miles away.  Ten Acres offers an “out of the way getaway” while being very close to all the events mentioned.

In these difficult times, it’s easy to put off much needed time away from the hustle of everyday life.  But we have tried to give all our guests options to get a vacation, without breaking the bank.  Give us a look.  And here’s to everyone having a fun filled, relaxing summer!

Family Reunions and Vacations in Vermont

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 4:42 am

Summer is the time when many think of catching up with family.  At Ten Acres Lodge, we’ve been lucky to host many family reunions.  During the summer, Stowe is a great place for such an event since there are activities galore from hiking and biking to golf and tennis.  Ben and Jerry’s Ice Cream has their factory just 10 miles from here.  Beautiful scenery, non stop fun and a relaxing place to stay all add up to great reunion.  At the Lodge, the kids can take in a movie at our cinema while the grown ups spend time by the pool.  Or the tennis court is available, our serenity waterfall makes a wonderful reading spot and grounds are overflowing with flowers and wildlife.

Winter also finds us hosting Family reunions with our premier skiing  just 10 minutes away (both downhill and XC).  Sledding on our property is popular as is the cinema.  Christmas and Feburary are high demand times for this so book early.

Family Vacations in Stowe as well as reunions are an option to consider.  Your family can block out one of our buildings (6 rooms in one building, 8 rooms in the other) so we are big enough for large gatherings but small enough to give you the attention you deserve.

If your planning a family reunion in Vermont, please consider Stowe and Ten Acres Lodge.

Also, please check out our new “fan page” on Facebook.  If you belong to Facebook, you’ll find us under “Ten Acres Lodge” and you see over 60 pictures of our place.

Hope to see you and your family soon!

Vermont Biking Tours

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 1:13 pm

The warmer temps as of late got me thinking about all the bikers who come up to Stowe.  Biking in Vermont has become a popular activity in the Spring, Summer and Fall.  Many of our guests have used our Vermont Bed and Breakfast as a base of operations for tours in and around Stowe.  While some Vermont Inns participate in organized tours, which can be great, you can also set up your own tour.  You can explore Smuggler’s Notch, Stowe, Waterbury and the Green Mountains all from our Stowe Bed and Breakfast.  Ten Acres Lodge has a covered area for your bike to secure it while you relax.  And Stowe has a wide variety of restaurants for foodies and we offer dinner at the lodge as well.  We have several pricing packages that help stretch your travel dollar as well.

Biking isn’t the only thing to do.  The Green Mountain Hiking Club maintains dozens of trails in the area and many of our guests take in hiking in Vermont while staying with us.  The scenery is spectacular and the trails are at all levels.

If your thinking about getting away for some serious biking in Vermont, please consider Stowe and Ten Acres.  I think you’ll be gald you did.

Spring skiing at a Vermont Bed and Breakfast

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 3:30 pm

March brings the snowiest month of the year in Stowe Vermont, though many may find that hard to believe with grass making an appearance in the back yards of many.  But those of us who run Stowe Inns know that ski season is still in full swing.  For me well…..that means more shoveling and plowing.  But for our guests at Ten Acres Lodge it means classic Spring Skiing!  It really is a great time to come to Vermont as the temps are comfortable and the snow is soft.

March also means maple syrup as the sap is running.  It can be interesting to visit a sugaring farm and witness the process first hand on the making of maple syrup.  It takes 40 gallons of sap to make one gallon of syrup!  Once you have real maple syrup on our french toast that we make at the lodge….you’ll never want to have that fake stuff again!

A bed and breakfast in Stowe is a great way to experience the magic of Vermont.  We hope you find yourself our way either to ski or just relax…and think of Ten Acres Lodge if you do come up.

Winter in full swing in Stowe Vermont

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 4:44 pm

Been awhile since I posted last and thought I should update everyone on what is going on at Ten Acres Lodge in Stowe, VT.

Needless to say, Winter has arrived!  So far we have had a good snow season.  December was above average in snow and we expect the same for January.  Our humble little town is an Oasis for winter enthusiasts with activities as diverse as downhill skiing, cross country skiing, snow machines (snowmobiles to us flatlanders), snowshoeing, ice skating, dog sledding and much much more.  Let me give you a little more detail on some of these…

I was just at the mountain today and you wouldn’t recognize it from even last year.  The Base Lodge is up and running and is beautiful.  Complete with Restaurant, Bar, lockers, gift shop and plenty of space to rest up.  It has a rustic feel but is definitely comtemporary.  I’m sure it rivals any base lodge in the country.  The skiing, which of course is paramount to skiers, is as good as ever.  Snow making continues to be an added bonus to the mountain and they have gotten very good at creating good conditions on most any day.  Some guests we had here during a recent thaw said the skiing was fabulous!

Cross Country skiing is among the best you’ll find in the country, with Trapp Family Lodge sporting the premier cross country ski center in North America.  It’s great that we are only a mile away from there and as a result, we attract a lot of cross country skiers.  They have even added snow making on 10Km of the trails which keeps many of the trails open when the weather doesn’t cooperate.

We have a soft spot in our hearts for Dog Sledding.  This is a once in a lifetime experience that is not to be missed!  We love dogs as it is but, to be out on the trails with excited dogs ready to give you a ride, amkes for a thrilling 90 minutes.  We can send you to the right place for dog sledding so please ask us.  A slightly slower ride is a horse carriage ride.  Not as thrilling but nevertheless an enjoyable experience.  There are several options in town and we love them all.

Did I mention sledding?  Discover the kid in you by renting some sleds or tobaggans and racing down one of our hills.  One of my fondest memories of owning Ten Acres will always be watching a family sled down the hill we have on our property.  What makes it so special?  The family was from Cuba…they had just “escaped” a few months earlier, and this was the first time they had seen snow.  And when I say family, I mean the entire family!  The kids, Mom and Dad, even Grandma and Gramps!  I can still hear the screams and laughing, just pure joy, of all of them trying sledding for the first time.

If this isn’t enough to interest you consider this.  Prices are competitive these days and places like Stowe are looking to attract customers.  We have some packages ourselves that provide discounts for three night and five night stays.  You should check it out.  At times like these, with all the bad news that is reported, it’s important to remember to have some fun…and be a kid again!  Just like that family from Cuba.

I can still hear them laughing like kids….

Boston Bruins invading Stowe VT

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 7:26 pm

Those of you who have followed our exploits here may remember I had the the great honor of working with the Boston Bruins Hockey Club last year, facilitating a team building event.  Guess I did OK as they are returning to Stowe and I will be having a role in helping them make a run for the cup.  I must say this is a great group of men, from the coaching staff, to the front office to the players themselves.  It was one of the most enjoyable team building sessions I had ever done and I look forward to working with them again.  With the quality individuals they have in this organization, I have no doubt they will continue to improve and make it deep into the playoffs.  Here’s hoping they do!

The Bruins aren’t the only ones invading Stowe.  The British Invasion, the annual car show celebrating classic Bristish Sports Cars is this weekend and this year’s event promises to be the best ever.  More interesting to me is the variety of visitors we have coming to Stowe.  If this weekend is any indication, our guests here at Ten Acres Lodge come from South Africa, England, Canada, Asia and even the USA!  This international crowd is one of the reasons I so enjoy owning this place.  It makes for interesting conversations.

The leaves are starting to change so for you leaf peepers out there…start making your plans to come up.  If you haven’t booked a room, you may start to find it difficult.  It’s looking like it will be a spectacular autumn with colors galore!  We hope to see you in the coming weeks.
