Chance of Snow showers turns into half a foot in Stowe VT

Weather forecasters….you gotta love ‘em.  Yesterday the forecast was for a “chance of snow showers”.  By the end of the day, we had 6-8 inches of new snow.  Not that we’re complaining….well I might be since I have to plow and shovel the stuff.  And more snow is on the way!  The point is, while we do depend on weather forecasts to plan our day and trips, winter weather here in Stowe is largely unpredictable.  Microclimates, as they are called here, can mean different amounts in snow in neighboring communities.  If you want up to date conditions, check out our web cam at www.tenacreslodge.com

The picture shows what can happen when we have a thaw.  The snow on the roof of our shed was sliding down as it melted, then froze like this.  It was this way for a week.  An unusual sight!
For you skiers and snow lovers, the conditions are great!  Come up and see us!

Stowe VT Webcam

Filed under: Views of the Inn — admin @ 1:03 pm

We have added a webcam to our Stowe Inn web site! The camera faces out from the front of the inn and across the street where you can see dairy cows wander in the warmer weather. Right now the camera is showing a lot of snow coming down! We hope that it will be a fun and useful way for people to see the current environment in Stowe.

Our Stowe lodging is really in an ideal location for year-round travel. Since we are just down the street from Stowe Mountain Resort, we are very conveniently located for those interested in a ski getaway package. However, as I have said in earlier posts, Stowe is far from just a ski town, even in the winter. Tour the Bed & Jerry’s factory, take in the antique shops and other boutiques in town, go see a play. It’s all here in Stowe.

I hope that our web cam can end up being a useful tool. It will be a real-time view of what’s happening not only at Ten Acres Lodge, but in Stowe. This way you will know what to expect before you get here. Speaking of which, I hope to see you at our Vermont Bed and Breakfast soon!

Fall Colors in Vermont

Filed under: Events in Stowe VT, Views of the Inn — admin @ 6:51 am

Fall colors in Stowe Vermont never fail to amaze me.  We’ve owned Ten Acres Lodge for four years and each autumn I marvel at how Mother Nature paints the landscape.   Stowe ends up being a great location to witness the annual display with events galore in a quintessential New England village setting. stowe-vt-fall-color

I like to think that our Stowe Bed and Breakfast adds to the experience with its country setting.  We have dairy cows across the street, with a backdrop of mountains.  The trees on our property produce a mix of reds and yellows and when combined with the green grass make for a breathtaking view.  Our hot tub looks out over a valley and the fireplaces in the rooms only enhance the mood.  We even make campfires and guests enjoy s’mores in the twilight.

If you’re looking for THE place to enjoy a Fall vacation, consider Stowe Vermont and our Vermont Country Inn, Ten Acres Lodge.  Leave the stress of everyday life behind by booking your trip now.  Rooms fill up fast, with the most popular time being the first two weeks in October.  Usually, the peak colors are found from Sept 25-Oct 15 so plan accordingly.

We hope to see you here at this special time of year.

Somewhere over the rainbow

Filed under: Uncategorized, Views of the Inn — admin @ 4:03 pm

The view from the front of our place is truly spectacular. A guest that stayed at Ten Acres several years back took this photo showing one of the many rainbows we get around here. Lately, there have been a few more than wanted as we have been getting a lot of rain, but it looks like the sunny days are ahead for us.

This view seems to be one the most photographed in Stowe as all the cars that pull over in our parking lot can attest. I’ve thought about charging a toll during foliage season! I guess the view is appealing for several reasons. One, the cows. Most everyone likes taking pictures of the many cows that are across the street. It’s interesting that the cows that occupy this land are all pregnant and every week or so, a truck will pull up, find the new mother and her calf, and take them back to the main farm. Then the truck will return and drop off another expecting mother.

The barn you see off in the distance is another reason for people to like this view. It was abandoned long ago but it is in surprisingly good shape. It helps one look into our past, to see America as it once was, a landscape dotted with family farms, as this land once was. Ten Acres Lodge was originally a simple farm house, built by the Bigelow family in 1836.

I like having a classic Vermont landscape right out my front door. It’s a view everyone should take in at least once in their lifetime.
